Biomass energy is a simple term for the process of turning former waste
materials, such as wood, landfill gas, and other organic materials into a
green/renewable fuel source. Historically, wood was one of the original
sources of fuel. The benefits of using wood is to solve an environmental
issue relating to disposal of wood waste while at the same time adding to our
country's green/renewable energy capacity.
The Fortistar Biomass Group was formed in early 2008 with the acquisition
of five biomass facilities delivering energy to communities in the United States
and Canada. This is the second green/renewable fuel source in the
Fortistar portfolio.
Our Biomass Group produces over 65 Megawatts of green/renewable power which is
able to service 65,000 homes.
